How to remove a billion tons of carbon dioxide by 2030
At our first ever town hall on Monday, 133 Air Miners shared "What would empower you to remove a billion tons of carbon by 2030?"
Here's what we heard:
Funding to hire team members
Financing to build out trial machines
Boots on the ground experts like welders, plumbers, ship builders
Offtake agreements from customers to buy carbon, pre-fund carbon removal
More scientists to do the fundamental research to unlock new solutions
A favorable policy environment
Get these done and we're unlocking the possibility of removing a billion tons of carbon. Let's get to it!
So, how do we transform these words into actions?
Here's an example of action just this week: Buyers Demo Day
At Town Hall we introduced the challenge for Buyers Demo Day #4, only 4 days away: "Get to 21 new buyers registered for Buyers day by Friday"
Immediately after the town hall, Air Miners sprung into action with emails, invitations, social media posts
My inbox filled up with emails from Air Miners to prospective buyers, ccing me. I don't even know some of these people (2,000 members is a lot!), getting in touch with Fortune 500 companies, municipalities, even VC firms that buy carbon credits.
Members posted on LinkedIn and others liked and re-shared it through their networks
On Wednesday at noon, a group of us got together to have a working session on #general Slack, talking about who we could get in contact with. One example of going into action - midway through the call a person had an idea for a buyer she wanted to connect with, confirmed it with us, and instead of waiting for the meeting to be over she hopped on the phone to make an invitation! (I don't actually know what happened with that but it was an example of getting to action)
Result: 24 Buyers came and made 65 requests for introductions to the seven startups that pitched!
And 13 of the registrants were new buyers including H&M, Kickstarter, and Autodesk. Let's go! It's amazing what comes out of these sessions. In a breakout room a DAC startup in Kenya met a potential buyer in Atlanta -- and it turns out the Kenyan startup team is going to be in Atlanta by chance next month so they're meeting up in person.
This is how we get empowered to remove carbon, to transform ideas into reality.
Next, let's work with the rest of the list above.
What is it that you said would empower you? How are you going to take action on it? Are there any actions that you've already taken this week already?
If your action involves a new idea, or something that you need, or a lead you can share with others, come join our first Ideas, Needs, and Leads session.

P.S. THE MIDNIGHT MEETING is our first ever meeting at midnight Pacific time. It's an "ideas, needs, and leads" session designed for those on a Europe/Africa/Middle East/India timezone PLUS those who like to stay up late in the Americas. "DJ Grillo" and I will both be there, more West Coast AirMiners welcome too, make it a party. When was the last time you attended a meeting at midnight anyway? Join here
